The Real Patriots Day

By Daniel Brigman Copyright 2013

The news is ablaze with the explosions in Boston.  To make it worse they occurred on the day set apart to celebrate Patriot’s Day.  Instead of honoring our heritage we are focused on the tragedy at the marathon.  Quite a shame.   Usually there is at least some reference to Revolutionary times in the media during this week, but with the bombing there is nothing.  Our ancestors deserve better.

Although “Patriot’s Day” is always honored on a Monday in Boston, the true Patriot’s Day occurs on a Friday this year.  On April 19th, 2013 it will be 238 years since the beginning of the War for American Independence.  I pray that April morning in 1775 will never be forgotten.  If most of the media will not honor the events of that day I certainly will.    Below is an excerpt from my new book Forever 1776…permit me to go back to 1775 and honor one of the most important days in America’s history.

**************************************************

The reports reaching London from most of the british officers was that the colonists were “cowardly and would never fight the crown.”  This assumption would explain the hubris shown by the english.  Within the 13 colonies, for the majority, the People just wanted to get along with the british.  A significant percentage of the population were “tories” and supportive of the crown.  It probably would have remained that way if king george wasn’t such a tyrant and our forefathers weren’t so violently in favor of freedom.  It was the actions of the british government that ultimately incited revolution.  As british occupation became more vile the tide of independence grew.

In April of 1775 Massachusetts was showing signs of possible rebellion.  On April 14th, Lieutenant General Thomas Gage received orders to take decisive action to end the unrest in the area.  On April 19th, he sent Colonel Francis Smith to seize the munitions rumored to be stored in Concord, some 18 miles inland.  Smith was given 700 elite fighting men to complete the task.  Colonel Smith was probably chosen because of his “slow” demeanor.  Gage did not want an aggressive officer to complete the un-envious task of disarming the already agitated community.

The town was not surprised by the oncoming British.  Paul Revere and several Patriots made sure the Colonists were ready by their historical “midnight ride.”  At about 5 am Captain John Parker’s Lexington Militia met them head on in the town of Lexington.  The American Minuteman was born.  Despite the courage of Captain Parker’s men the militia was dispatched rather easily by the red-coats.  Ten Americans were killed and nine wounded in the first, but not last, encounter of the day.  Full of confidence the british continued on toward Concord.

As the morning progressed it became apparent that Colonel Smith and the redcoats were in a fight.  Militias were now gathering in larger and larger groups.  Word of the gun fight at Lexington spread like Sunday gossip.  The reports of American “cowardice” now seemed grossly exaggerated.  Smith was unable to properly gather his troops heading across the bridge into Concord.  They were scattered throughout the farms searching for the store of muskets, powder and balls that were rumored to be in the area.  Unbenounced to them at the time, the small skirmish at Lexington had lit a fuse to a powder keg the british were not anticipating.

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard round the world.

By Rudyard Kipling from “Hymn” Sung at the Completion of the Concord Monument, April 19, 1836

House to house news of the impending invasion spread.  Some ran to safety; while some stayed to fight.  Many came from outlying areas.  Jonas Clark, Pastor of the local congregation insisted arms be stored in his church.  Many of the men ran there to get a musket and take cover.  By the time soldiers hit the bridge it was apparent the british may have stepped into a hornets nest.

***********************************************

Among the “uprising” were all sorts of People.  Samuel Whittemore was no stranger to war.  He had fought the French in two separate campaigns and was a Captain to boot.  At the advanced age of 68 he left his wife, children and grandchildren to tend the farm while he volunteered for the Indian Wars of 1763.  In that conflict he had procured two dueling pistols from the arms left by a dead officer.  It was a prized possession.  When word of the invasion reached Samuel’s ears he was already in his 80th year.  Perhaps he felt too old to run but history would prove he definitely wasn’t too old to fight.  Instead of evacuating with some of the women and children he stayed.

Samuel took his time to dust off his prized pistols believing, more than likely, he would soon take his last breath.  Dying for the cause of Independence gave his life new meaning.  He made peace with his Maker and prepared for battle as he had done many times before.  This time had special purpose behind it.  Samuel’s wife was already passed, his children grown but he had a fevered desire for his grandchildren to grow up free.  He loaded and powdered up his pistols.  He drew his long sword and prepared to face Liberty’s enemy.  Despite the insistence of his fellow Minutemen, Samuel stayed near his house directly in front of the road the soldiers would be traveling.  He intended to meet them head-on.

Once the british realized they had bitten off more than they could chew reinforcements were called for.  Another 700 came.  The Minutemen were far more organized and larger in number than Gage or Smith had imagined.  The british crossed the bridge and headed toward Concord and outlining houses.  This was no longer an operation to squelch uprising…it was battle.  Only their supreme conditioning and experience saved any of them.  Rumors of the Americans giving “no quarter” motivated them even further.

As the day wore on the british went from aggressors to retreating for their lives toward Boston.  Along the way they burned some of the houses in their path.  Word of this most certainly had reached Samuel and his fellow “insurgents”.  Samuel believed deeply in Independence.  On April 19th, 1775, for the first time in his life, Samuel Whittemore, former Captain of his majesty’s Dragoons, took up arms against the empire he once fought for.  He shot both his prized pistols and hit the mark.  Two soldiers fell dead.  He then drew his sword and pierced one or two more before they were on him.  Still full of fight the red-coats had to stab him some 13 times with their swords before he would stop.  And this was after he was shot point blank with a .69 caliber ball in the face tearing part of his cheek off.

samuel_whittemore

After the soldiers were driven from the area townsfolk who had witnessed Samuel’s demise came back to gather the body.  What they found was more surprising than the man’s fight to begin with.  He was still alive!  Not only alive, they found him trying to reload his pistols for the next attack.  He wrapped his jaw together the best he could and he was taken for medical attention.  The british had been routed.  Many red-coats died trying to take arms that day but Samuel lived on.  In fact he lived on to see his 99th year.  The disarmament failed.  Americans kept their guns.   The American Revolution had begun.

“Fiasco at Obamanation Inauguration”

SHORT STORY ABOUT THE POWER OF TRUTH IN MUSIC.
Lupe Fiasco, rapper, political atheist, dragged offstage, dragged off YouTube, hated by all media.
(Warning: a measure of Satanism that has come to typify our era’s popular music shows in his performances/videos.)

The end of free speech? Live in Washington, D.C.: raw footage of Lupe Fiasco being shut down for expressing his views through rap lyrics

The whole song

Notice how they should have known the lyrics but let him perform. It has been advanced that he was removed because his production was poorly received, even that he simply “sucked.” Also note his Satanic gesticulations. Is Lupe Fiasco an agent provocateur? Is this Obama’s way of establishing fear while setting up a dichotomy of evil vs. evil?

Shooting At Mall In Portland, Oregon One More Reason To Carry A Gun For Self Defence, Dont Be A Sitting Duck.

In the aftermath of the Bob Costas controversy once again will this incident be used to try and nullify your second amendment rights by the Communist gun grabbers? Time after time defenseless people are mowed down by armed gunman and brainwashed dummy’s like Bob Costas are calling for you to turn in your guns just to be a sitting duck.

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms. . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” — Jefferson’s “Commonplace Book,” 1774-1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

— Thomas Jefferson

You have to have your head so far up your @$$ to think your going to be safe in a World were all the good people turn in guns and criminals still have guns.  Those same criminal can now pick you off one at a time because they have no fear of armed people.   Its time to get real the government is not going to save you and TSA being at malls is not going to keep you safe from getting shot or killed!

  • GEORGE WASHINGTON (First President)
    • “Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the people’s liberty teeth keystone… the rifle and the pistol are equally indispensable… more than 99% of them by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference. When firearms go, all goes, we need them every hour.” (Address to 1st session of Congress)

Oregon Mall Shooting: Gunman 'Tentatively' Identified (ABC News)

This section from Yahoo.com News

A masked gunman who opened fire in the crowded Clackamas Town Center mall in suburban Portland, Ore., killing two individuals and seriously injuring a third before killing himself, has been “tentatively” identified by police, though they have not yet released his name.

The shooter, wearing a white hockey mask, black clothing, and a bullet proof vest, tore through the mall around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, entering through a Macy’s store and proceeding to the food court and public areas spraying bullets, according to witness reports.

Police have not released the names of the deceased. Clackamas County Sheriff’s Department Lt. James Rhodes said authorities are in the process of notifying victims’ families.

The injured victim has been transported to a local hospital, according to Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts.

A photo shows armed, militarized police responding to a shooting at a mall in Portland, Oregon last night during which three people were killed, including the gunman.

The photo (click here for enlargement) was tweeted by Randy Rasmussen, a photojournalist with the Oregonian and also emailed to us by a reader who stated;

This picture was retweeted by the Oregonian this evening. They say it is a picture of “police patrolling the parking lot” so the picture looked weird to me. I zoomed in and as far as I can tell those are soldiers. They have the digital ACU pattern, helmets, rifles, and some even look to be wearing body armor. I was in the Oregon national guard and did a tour in Iraq so I’m pretty familiar with the get up. The only thing different is the helmets. No digital ACU covering. I also could not tell of any of them had unit patches on their left shoulders. My resolution is not good enough.

I really just want this to get out. I’ve listened to you for years and have never seen this in real life. This is further strong evidence that the military and the police are merging In this country in a way that is not healthy for our liberties or what’s left of our republic.

Whether the men in the photo are police or National Guard, the image again illustrates how the militarization of America is becoming normalized off the back of shooting incidents like the one last night which occurred at the Clackamas Town Center mall, one of Portland’s busiest shopping centers with 185 stores and 20 cinema screens.

According to witnesses, the gunman wore camouflage fatigues, a bullet proof vest and a white hockey mask. He began firing rounds from a military-style rifle near the shopping mall’s food court. The shooter killed two people and badly injured another before turning the gun on himself and committing suicide.

Police almost immediately confirmed that there was only one shooter and were able to escort shoppers outside.

This tragic incident will undoubtedly be hijacked once again by gun control advocates and used to attack second amendment rights. The shooting occurred just a week after gun control became part of the national debate after NBC Sports announcer Bob Costas’ controversial comments when he called for more draconian gun control measures after the murder/suicide involving Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins.

Gun sales recently hit record all time highs, primarily driven by fears that President Barack Obama will use his lame duck term to follow through on a promise he made to work “under the radar” on new gun control policy. Gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson also recently announced a 48% surge in firearms sales and a quarterly profit of $21.2 million dollars.

Other readers emailed us to express concerns that shootings such as this and July’s ‘Batman massacre’ are greasing the skids for airport-style security and TSA agents conducting pat downs at large malls.

“All these watch towers may soon employ the shopping mall TSA into watching parking lots with guns and main door check points,” wrote one.

Asteroids threatening Earth in 2013 could this be the Biblical Wormwood?

The impact of a meteorite or comet is today wi...

Recently I was informed by a informant who would like to remain Anonymous who has connections to Washington insiders. I was told by him that A dangerous asteroid, known as DA14 is heading toward the Earth and was spotted by NASA three years after it had got onto its current orbit. I was told that this asteroid has a 30% chance of hitting Earth around February 2013 at a distance of under 27,000 km (16,700 miles). The problem is that time has long run out to build a spaceship to carry out an rescue operation to stop its possible impact with earth but further calculation is required to estimate the potential threat and work out how to avert possible disaster. What I was told is that the Governments of the world are in fact planning on what to do about this asteroid and how to avert a possible human catastrophe in preparing the world populations for an announcement for a possible impact. scientists suggest confronting asteroid 2012 DA14 with either paint or big guns.

Chart of detected NEO's
Chart of detected NEO’s (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

“The Earth’s gravitational field will alter the asteroid’s path significantly. Further scrupulous calculation is required to estimate the threat of collision,” said Dr. Dunham, as transcribed by Russia’s Izvestia. “The asteroid may break into dozens of small pieces, or several large lumps may split from it and burn up in the atmosphere. The type of the asteroid and its mineral structure can be determined by spectral analysis. This will help predict its behavior in the atmosphere and what should be done to prevent the potential threat,” said NASA expert Dr. Dunham.

In the event of a collision, scientists have calculated that the energy released would equate to the destructive power of a thermo-nuclear bomb. In response to the threat, scientists have come up with some ingenious methods to avert a potential disaster.

A spaceship is needed, experts agree. It could shoot the rock down or just crash into it, either breaking the asteroid into debris or throwing it off course.

“We could paint it,” says NASA expert David Dunham.

Paint would affect the asteroid’s ability to reflect sunlight, changing its temperature and altering its spin. The asteroid would stalk off its current course, but this could also make the boulder even more dangerous when it comes back in 2056, Aleksandr Devaytkin, the head of the observatory in Russia’s Pulkovo, told Izvestia.

Spaceship impossible?

Whatever the mission, building a spaceship to deal with 2012 DA14 will take two years – at least.

The asteroid has proven a bitter discovery. It has been circling in orbit for three years already, crossing Earth’s path several times, says space analyst Sergey Naroenkov from the Russian Academy of Sciences. It seems that spotting danger from outer space is still the area where mere chance reigns, while asteroid defense systems exist only in drafts.

Still, prospects of meeting 2012 DA14 are not all doom and gloom.

“The asteroid may split into pieces entering the atmosphere. In this case, most part of it will never reach the planet’s surface,” remarks Dunham.

But if the entire asteroid is to crash into the planet, the impact will be as hard as in the Tunguska blast, which in 1908 knocked down trees over a total area of 2,150 sq km (830 sq miles) in Siberia. This is almost the size of Luxembourg. In today’s case, the destination of the asteroid is yet to be determined.

Could this be the Biblical Wormwood, αψίνθιον (apsinthion) or άψινθος (apsinthos) in Greek, is a star, or angel,[1] that appears in the Biblical New Testament Book of Revelation.

Book of Revelation: “And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon a third of the rivers, and upon the springs of water; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and a third of the waters became Bitter; and many people had died of the waters, because they were made bitter.” (Revelation 8:10, 11 – KJV).

Futurist interpretations

Various scientific scenarios have been theorized on the effects of an asteroid or comet‘s collision with Earth. An applicable scenario theorizes a chemical change in the atmosphere due to “heat shock” during entry and/or impact of a large asteroid or comet, reacting oxygen and nitrogen in the atmosphere to produce nitric-acid rain.[6] Acid rain from the heat shock of a large comet or asteroid’s impact with Earth is believed by some to fit the Biblical description of the bitterness produced by the Wormwood Star upon a third of the Earth’s potable water. [7]

And the name of the star is called Wormwood – Is appropriately so called. The writer does not say that it would be actually so called, but that this name would be properly descriptive of its qualities. Such expressions are common in allegorical writings. The Greek word – ἄψινθος apsinthos – denotes “wormwood,” a well-known bitter herb. That word becomes the proper emblem of bitterness. Compare

As if there weren’t already enough signs in the Heavens, Comet Pan-Starrs will be passing over Israel with the arrival of Barack Obama in this Year of the Comet.

Throughout history, comets have been interpreted as harbingers of plague, impending disaster, or the ascension of a new king.

From YouTube videographer TheInfoCollecter: This is no coincidence my friend, along with everything else we’re seeing happen daily, this harbinger appears. Wake Up. We Fly Soon!

I disagree with a few statement he makes in the video below. I think that Christians are rapidly awakening, it’s those who are ‘not in touch’ who have yet to have awoken to what’s clearly becoming seen to most as prophecy unfolding.

If you think that Comet Pan-Starrs is something, you haven’t seen anything yet. Wait until the arrival of Comet ISON later in the year. Comet ISON is being spoken of as the “comet of the century

It is very rare to see two bright comets in one year according to NASA. Comet ISON could shine as brightly as a full moon in the middle of the day.  The comet will reach its perihelion on Nov. 28.   Subscribe to Live Free Or Die for video updates on YouTube.

Of course the LA Times had to throw this into their Comet ISON story.:

And there’s no chance the comet, even if it breaks apart, will hit the Earth, experts say.

Here’s a movie clip from “Deep Impact” for an example of what will not be happening with this possible comet of the century. But the special effects are cool.

Information
The M240 was adopted by the U.S. Military following a world-wide competition for a reliable 7.62 mm machine gun for use as a coaxial weapon for armored vehicleapplications. The Coaxial version of the famous Belgian MAG 58, produced by FN Herstal, won this competition. The demonstrated reliability of this weapon, 26,000 Mean Rounds Between Failure (MRBF), makes it the world’s most reliable machine gun. As a result of the outstanding performance of this weapon, vehicle, aviation, and infantry variants are now in use by the U. S. Military. The US variants are produced by FN Manufacturing, a US subsidiary of FN Herstal S.A.

Interoperability
The U. S. produced M240 variants are produced to the exacting specifications of the original MAG 58. consequently, all M240 variants have interchangeable components and are interoperable with foreign-produced NATO equivalent weapons. This has significant advantages in training, logistics support, and tactical versatility. For example, an M240B buttstock and bipod may be carried in an armored vehicle to enable the tank crew to convert the coaxial weapon to an infantry model in the event that they are forced to dismount from a vehicle.

GRAND HAVEN, Mich., Oct. 10 — Even in autumn, the cold, silent expanse of Lake Michigan defines this town, where pleasure boats glide into harbor, fishermen wait patiently for salmon and tourists peer up at the lighthouse.

But the United States Coast Guard has a new mission for the waters off of these quiet shores. For the first time, Coast Guard officials want to mount machine guns routinely on their cutters and small boats here and around all five of the Great Lakes as part of a program addressing the threats of terrorism after Sept. 11.

And, for the first time in memory, Coast Guard members plan to use a stretch of water at least five miles off this Michigan shore — and 33 other offshore spots near cities like Cleveland; Rochester; Milwaukee; Duluth, Minn.; and Gary, Ind. — as permanent, live fire shooting zones for training on their new 7.62 mm weapons, which can blast as many as 650 rounds a minute and send fire more than 4,000 yards.

The notion is so unusual that it prompted United States diplomats to negotiate with Canadian authorities in order to agree that it would not violate a 189-year-old treaty, signed after the War of 1812, limiting arms on the Great Lakes.

Many here in Grand Haven, a town whose history is so lovingly intertwined with the Coast Guard that it holds an annual festival celebrating the service branch, say they think of Coast Guard members mainly as the rugged sailors who race off to search for and save troubled boaters. But even here, in a town that calls itself “Coast Guard City U.S.A.,” some say the thought of members firing machine guns anywhere near these waters strikes them as dangerous to ordinary boaters, potentially damaging to the Great Lakes’ ecosystem and, frankly, a somewhat surprising place to be bracing for terrorists.

“You know exactly what’s going to happen with this,” said Bob Foster, 58, who said he spends every chance he gets on the waters here. “Some boater is going to inadvertently drive through the live fire zone and get blown out of the water.”

Carole Loftis, the owner of Snug Harbor, a popular restaurant with windows on the water, said that although she certainly carried concerns, like most Americans, about terrorism, drunken boating seemed a more frequent threat around here. “This seems a little like overkill,” Ms. Loftis said of the shooting plans.

Despite complaints from some charter boat captains, environmental groups and city leaders around the Great Lakes, the Coast Guard defended the need to mount M-240B machine guns on its boats and to test fire them two or three times a year in “safety zones,” about 70 square miles each.

“The Coast Guard has looked at an increased terrorist threat since 2001,” Rear Adm. John E. Crowley Jr., commander of the Coast Guard district that oversees the Great Lakes, said in a telephone interview. “I don’t know when or if something might happen on the Great Lakes, but I don’t want to learn the hard way.”

Some members of the Coast Guard assigned to law enforcement duties always carried weapons, but most of those were personal semiautomatic pistols. Since the arrival of the boat-mounted machine guns, the Coast Guard has conducted 24 training sessions on the lakes this year, although it has halted the exercises temporarily after news of the program seeped out last month and, with it, a barrage of objection.

“When I heard, I thought it was something from The Onion newspaper or an Internet hoax,” said Mike Bradley, the mayor of Sarnia, Ontario, which sits beside Lake Huron, where 6 of the 34 live fire zones are planned. “This whole thing was done way below the radar.”

The Coast Guard’s plans for permanent training zones were published in the Federal Register on Aug. 1, along with the promise of a month for public comment, but city leaders and ordinary boaters said that most of them never came across the document and that the authorities failed to provide them with any other notice of live fire plans — a fact that left some saying they felt as though the Coast Guard, now part of the Department of Homeland Security, was trying quietly to slip the whole weapons program past them.

Herb Bergson, the mayor of Duluth, got a telephone call in September from a resident who said she was listening to her marine scanner, heard talk of shooting on Lake Superior and wanted the mayor to explain what was going on.

“I didn’t know what to tell her,” Mr. Bergson said. “I was caught just flat-footed. No one told me, and they should have.”

Coast Guard leaders — who have since announced nine public meetings in Great Lakes cities, starting Monday, and have extended until Nov. 13 the period for people to weigh in on the idea — acknowledge that they initially failed to publicize the weapons training program. “I’ve got no good answer for that,” said Lt. j.g. Ryan Barone, a spokesman.

But the plans themselves, which ultimately would mean machine guns mounted on the vessels of more than 50 Coast Guard units throughout the Great Lakes, were carefully conceived, Lieutenant Barone said. Information about the proposal and scheduled public meetings is at uscgd9safetyzones.com.

All of the proposed firing zones sit at least five nautical miles from shores and from Canadian waters, as well as far from commercial shipping lanes and sensitive marine areas, Lieutenant Barone said. During the training days, when Coast Guard gunners will shoot at floating foam buoys, other boaters will be notified on marine radio frequencies, he said, and every test will include a designated safety observer.

Admiral Crowley said, “I don’t feel there’s a risk to anyone out there.”

Around the Great Lakes, some people said they were supportive of the presence of machine guns and the planned tests. The risks of terrorism, they said, cannot be underestimated — even in small towns, even in the Upper Midwest. And as with extra airport safety measures, they said, the live fire tests may be inconvenient but they are needed.

Several ferry operators in Michigan, who carry cars and passengers across Lake Michigan, said they were satisfied that their customers would be safe. Ken Alvey, president of the Lake Erie Marine Trades Association, which represents some 80 marine businesses, said he was comfortable knowing that the Coast Guard members would practice on their new weapons.

“To say we don’t have to worry about our open border with Canada would be foolish,” Mr. Alvey said. “You never know what avenue terrorists will take.”

But others, especially recreational boaters and professional fishing guides, said they were worried. Though most emphasized their support and gratitude to the Coast Guard, they said they did not even listen to their radios much anymore (unless a storm is rolling in) and could miss warnings altogether.

Ron Mihevc, who takes customers fishing out of the harbor at Waukegan, Ill., said he feared that the planned firing zone near Waukegan sits “right in the middle” of a prime fishing spot that draws scores of fishermen. Kelly J. Campise, another Waukegan boat captain, said fishermen already were carrying their clients many miles into Lake Michigan in search of salmon and trout at great fuel expense; going still further away to avoid the firing zones would cost still more, he said.

An 89-page environmental study, commissioned by federal authorities, concluded that rounds left in the lakes from the Coast Guard exercises would cause no harm, but Hugh McDiarmid Jr., a spokesman for the Michigan Environmental Council, said a “fuller environmental risk assessment,” given the lead content of the rounds in particular, was needed.

For years, Coast Guard boats have been armed, and training has been conducted off of the coasts of this country, said Brad J. Kieserman, chief of the operations law group at Coast Guard headquarters.

On the Great Lakes, weapons training by military branches like the Navy has also occurred in years gone by, dating back to World War I and World War II. But in keeping with a treaty known as Rush-Bagot from 1817, Coast Guard vessels on the Great Lakes have historically not included naval armaments.

But in 2003, federal authorities sought an understanding with their Canadian counterparts about Rush-Bagot in preparation for mounting machine guns on cutters so that the Coast Guard could “prevent terrorists or others engaged in criminal activities from crossing the United States-Canadian boundary by water,” according to documents from the exchange between the two countries.

In recent days, though, some Canadian mayors, who said they had not heard of the plans until this fall, have objected vehemently. David Miller, the mayor of Toronto, said he worried about practical, safety aspects of the weapons plan and about the environment, but also about the precedent set for the lakes’ more than 94,000 square miles of water.

“Our treaty had always said that the Great Lakes will not be militarized,” Mr. Miller said. “And in effect, this remilitarizes them in the name of a threat from 9/11.”

U.S. puts machine-guns on Great Lakes coast guard vessels

I wonder – is this meant to keep the Canadians out or to keep us in?For the first time since 1817, U.S. Coast Guard vessels on the Great Lakes are being outfitted with weapons – machine-guns capable of firing 600 bullets a minute.Until now, coast guard officers have been armed with handguns and rifles, but the vessels themselves haven’t been equipped with weapons. The War of 1812 saw violent battles on Lake Erie and Lake Huron between U.S. troops and British forces, which were largely composed of militias from Britain’s colonies in what is now Canada. After the war, the United States and Britain – and later Canada – agreed to demilitarize the Great Lakes waters. The Rush-Bagot Treaty of 1817 allowed each country to station four vessels, each equipped with an 18-pound cannon, to safeguard the Great Lakes.

To be fair I posted this comment from a so-called ex Marine.  I do not know if his side of the story is true or not but am always willing to listen to our comments and give credit to them if they help us correct our mistakes.  We want to look at all the facts.

MarineMachinegunner0331 commented: Not true, I was a machine gunner, and as of 2010 there was no such ammo for the M240G or M240B. The M2 .50 cal machine gun fires a Sabot Light Armor Piercing round that utilizes a 35. caliber tungsten penetrated wrapped in an injection molded (very very hard) plastic. The A10 (warthog) does use DU (depleted uranium) as an armor-piercing penetrator. This is called DEPLETED uranium because the typical amounts of uranium that you would find IN NATURE (that naturally occur as in not made by man!!) is much less. Uranium is a very dense and hard substance much like tungsten (except better) uranium 238 itself is not fissile (which means no spontaneous atom bomb) and it gives of very low amounts of radiation. In fact before it was used in commercial nuclear reactors it was used in paints and pottery that are still around today….. not giving people cancer.
