Two Glastonbury fathers, who are accused of sexually assaulting their adopted children, withdrew a plea deal that keeps them out of jail Friday in the attempt to clear their names for good.
George Harasz and Douglas Wirth are accused of sexually abusing and locking children in cages as well as other crimes.
However, once this went to court, the state had trouble proving some of the allegations actually occurred.
Couple that with testimony from other children, who say none of this happened at all, and Harasz and Wirth were able to strike a plea deal.

It was one that would’ve kept the couple out of jail, but Friday, in a surprising twist, the defense said that’s not good enough. They withdrew their clients’ plea deals and are requesting a trial in an attempt to clear their names completely.

Established as a new unit within the existing AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), FEMA Corps engages young adults ages 18 to 24 to provide ten months of full-time service on disaster response and recovery projects. Members will be deployed to assignments ranging from working directly with disaster survivors to supporting disaster recovery centers to sharing disaster response and mitigation information with the public.
At today’s induction ceremony, members of the inaugural FEMA Corps class took the AmeriCorps pledge to “get things done for America” and heard from agency leaders about the important work that lies ahead. FEMA Deputy Administrator Richard Serino and CNCS CEO Wendy Spencer were on hand to welcome the members and thank them for their commitment to service.

If God is personal, if God is Father, then for heaven’s sake the journey of faith must needs be mystical-experiential, which is exactly the tone of the Four Holy Gospels.
The Holy Scriptures, and this is a lot of what Jesus came to reemphasize, are not to be read primarily as a legal system (the way Muhmmad’s Quran is) or a way to forecast events (the way Michel de Nostredame’s Prophecies is) or a way to get God all figured out (the way Thomas Aquinas’ Summa Theologiæ has variously been taken to do) but rather is meant to guide us from within, personally and communally. Holy Writ is in the language of the heart, the language of love. Salvation hinges on doing more than just ‘hearing’ or ‘obeying.’ There is a non-negotiable passive side to this as well that goes completely overlooked in the ‘success’-driven West, which may be an indicator of why Jesus elevated children, women and fallen men as his disciples’ role models time and again. We actually need to let it transform us. And only Christian Orthodoxy, to my knowledge, has been doing this basically nonstop lo these 2,000 years.
On Thursday April 11th, Amnesty International at Nazareth College held a rally against what many consider to be the war crimes of the current administration. According to geologists, sinkholes have opened up on a daily basis for as long as anyone can remember. But nobody paid them much heed until now.

April 2, 2013– LOUISIANA– The head of Louisiana’s Department of Natural Resources named 13 scientists and other experts Friday to serve on a blue-ribbon commission tasked with determining the long-term stability of the area around northern Assumption Parish’s sinkhole. The 13-acre sinkhole and consequences of its emergence and continued growth, such as methane trapped under the Bayou Corne area, have forced the evacuation of 350 residents for more than seven months. The sinkhole, found in swamps between Bayou Corne and Grand Bayou on Aug. 3, is believed to have been caused by a failed Texas Brine Co. LLC cavern mined into the Napoleonville Dome.
