Karen Kwiatkowski- What I Saw at the Convention

I spent a day of my life at the 2012 Republican Convention. The plan was to stay for full four days, but the choreographed and staged “decision-making” made the 2,000 plus delegates irrelevant. Republican Party members hoping to see democracy in action were left staring at a fuzzy gray screen, listening to static, beating their heads against padded white walls. No free man would subject himself to such idiocy. As Doug Wead so delightfully put it, the party has been reduced to “ten fat men sitting in a room.”

One of these fat men is John Sununu. Watching him on Tuesday afternoon steamroll the wishes of half of the delegate floor, and destroy what was left of the integrity of the GOP, I was strongly reminded of Nurse Ratched running the floor at the Salem State Hospital. In One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Ratched dominates…

Wikileaks cable says Iraqi children shot in head during US raid

Washington – One of the US diplomatic cables in the latest batch released by Wikileaks offers evidence of US troops executing at least 10 Iraqi civilians in one incident, including women and children who were handcuffed and shot in the head.

In a communication to US officials dated less than two weeks after the March 15, 2006 nighttime raid, Philip Alston, the UN’s special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, said autopsies performed on the dead civilians showed all were handcuffed and shot in the head.

Among the dead were five children, all five years old or younger, and four women. In an email to McClatchy Newspapers on Wednesday, Alston noted both the US and Iraqi governments had not been forthcoming in his request for information, as “was the case with most of the letters to the U.S. in the 2006-2007 period,” a time…

In the video below, Jackie Gloor, who worked as Ron Paul’s Texas coordinator and went to Tampa as a delegate last week, explains how she was set-up to be busted by the TSA. Gloor said her motel room was entered while she was away and bullets placed in her luggage. The bullets were later found by the TSA during a search at the airport. Gloor said she would have been arrested and probably charged with a felony if she had not mentioned that she works for Rep. Ron Paul.

There is no direct evidence the bullets were planted by Republican Party operatives, but considering the dirty tricks of the past – Karl Rove specialized in dirty tricks to sabotage the opposition – it is entirely legitimate to speculate that this was another nasty attack by the establishment to destroy any and all credible…

U.S. courts will soon decide whether Americans can have the expectation of privacy over their DNA, reports Kate Moser at the Recorder.

Michael Risher of the ACLU of Northern California is challenging a California law that requires all felony arrestees to give a DNA sample.

He argues that Americans “don’t want the government to have all that information about us.” The government doesn’t have the right to demand our genetic material – including the wealth of personal information it holds – even if it promises to use it only for law enforcement, Risher claims.

Hanni Fakhoury, a lawyer at the Electronic Frontier Foundation who filed a friend of the court brief in the case, says he’s concerned about “some of the problems of large-scale data gathering not based on any individualized suspicion that someone is engaged in criminal activities.”

That concern is already playing out in terms of…

“We filed a complaint with the SA Police Service yesterday and a ‘crimes against the state’ docket was opened,” Muhammed Vawda, secretary of Spoc, said today.

“A case number was issued and it will go to the National Director of Public Prosecutions for a decision.”

Blair and former US president George W Bush were found guilty in absentia of crimes against humanity by the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal in November last year.

They were also found guilty of genocide for their roles in the Iraq War.The tribunal was presided over by five judges.

The court acknowledged that the verdict was non-enforceable, but the findings were reported to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

The Daily Maverick reported that the official UK government inquiry into the Iraq War, the Chilcot Inquiry, is only set to release a report late into 2013, which will run more than 1-million…

Ron Paul Skeptical On Romney’s Speech- “The GOP Is Not My Party” | THE JEENYUS

LAS VEGAS SUN

Rep. Ron Paul said GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s convention speech left him “very skeptical” that the country’s economic policies will change.

“The speech is what I would expect,” the Texas Republican said Friday on Bloomberg Television’s “In the Loop.” “I remain very, very skeptical of hearing anything that will change the course of history. We have a debt problem. We have a spending problem, but how many things did he list to cut?”

Not enough, he said. The former GOP presidential candidate said the “most disturbing” part of America’s fiscal problems is the Federal Reserve, which Romney did not focus on during his speech.

“There was no talk of the Federal Reserve,” said Paul, advocating the elimination of both the Fed and fixed interest rates. “As long as we have the concept,” he later added, “we…

The Gold Standard Goes Mainstream

By SETH LIPSKY

An under-reported development of this campaign season is the Republican Party’s decision this week to send Gov. Mitt Romney into the presidential race on a platform effectively calling for a new gold commission. The realization that America’s system of fiat money is part of its economic problem is moving from the fringes of political discussion to the center.

This is a sharp contrast from the last time a gold commission was convened, in 1981, a decade after President Nixon abandoned the Bretton Woods system and opened the era of a fiat dollar. The 1981 commission recommended against restoring a gold basis to the dollar. But two members—Congressman Ron Paul and businessman-scholar Lewis Lehrman—dissented and outlined the case for gold.

The new platform doesn’t use the word “gold,” describing the 1981 United States Gold Commission as looking at a “metallic basis” for the dollar. But the metal…

The Huffington Post  |  By Emma Gray

Money may not buy you happiness, but according to new research, genetics might be able to … if you’re a woman. A new study has isolated a gene that researchers believe is related to happiness in women. Unfortunately for the other half of the population, this doesn’t hold for men.

Researchers from the University of South Florida, Columbia University and the National Institutes of Health found that a type of the monoamine oxidase A (MAOA) gene was connected to higher levels of self-reported happiness in women. The study, published this month in the journal Neuro-Psychopharmacology & Biological Psychiatrylooked at the DNA of 193 women and 152 men, reported Fox News. Researchers then compared these results to the participants’ levels of self-reported happiness, controlling for factors such as age, gender, race, income, marital status, self-esteem and physical health. Women with at…
